APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
Apple cider vinegar can help regulate the skin’s pH levels as well as improve skin texture and appearance. ACV has anti-fungal properties and can help with toe fungus and discoloured toenails. It is a great component for the detangler spray and can improve scalp health, strengthen hair and enhance shine. It is loaded with vitamins B and C, both of which are needed for hair health.
Vinegar is great for cleaning because of its high acidity level. It can remove sticky build up, dissolve soap scum, get rid of rings left by hard water, and cut grease. Vinegar can also kill salmonella and E.coli, two bacteria you’ll want to kill.
Baking soda is great for absorbing odor and removing stains, making it a go-to for your natural cleaning. Baking Soda is a mild alkali and can cause dirt and grease to dissolve easily in water for effective removal.
SEA SALT AND EPSOM SALT
Salts can be added to a warm bath to help with skin irritations, muscle aches, and to detox the body. The minerals found in salts will absorb through the skin and get into your body to help with these things. Soaking in warm water alone can help to relax muscles and loosen joints.
You may notice that I like to sneak this ingredient into almost all my DIY products, and that is probably why I am tempted to eat things like my homemade lip balm and body butter. This stuff is amazing for the skin, hair, and can be used to make delicious chocolates. Cocoa butter is extremely moisturizing for the skin and works well at conditioning the hair. It provides shine, protects against split ends, and softens hair.

Coconut oil has antibacterial properties making it great for protecting the scalp against infections and lice. It is also effective for nourishing the hair and removing build-up.
Jojoba oil is often used as a natural remedy for dandruff because of its moisturizing properties. Using jojoba can also prevent hair loss and help hair to thicken. If you have oily hair, you can eliminate this from the conditioner and try adding in a few drops of lemon instead.
Some people use plain aloe for a hair conditioner, which works fantastic, especially as a hair conditioning treatment. You can apply aloe to the hair and allow it to soak for 2-4 hours or overnight and then rinse the hair in the morning to heal damaged hair. Aloe can reduce dandruff by repairing dead skin cells on the scalp and leave your hair fuller and shinier.
Castile soap is a very concentrated, vegetable-based soap. It is typically made out of olive oil or coconut oil. It has natural antibacterial properties that can help kill infections on the skin, and it is known to help with skin imperfections, like acne. Castile soap is a gentle soap that can be used on sensitive skin, and it is very good for the face. You can buy scented or unscented castile soap, I prefer unscented, so I can scent it how I want with my essential oils.
Glycerin is a vegetable-based, odorless, clear liquid. It will add thickness to the baby wash that will allow it to lather up better. Glycerin is a natural moisturizer and will allow your baby’s skin to stay smooth and soft.
FRACTIONATED COCONUT OIL
Fractionated coconut oil (FCO) is a very light oil that has many benefits for the body. FCO is different from regular coconut oil because it stays liquid. It prevents oxidation, making it effective for extending the shelf life in natural products. You can also use sweet almond oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, or olive oil in this recipe. Using a carrier oil will add extra moisture to the baby wash.
PURE ALOE VERA GEL
Aloe vera gel has so many wonderful benefits for the skin. It has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing properties, making it great for cleansing and protecting the skin. Studies have shown that aloe can help heal damaged skin and wounds because it improves blood circulation. Aloe can improve collagen production and prevent cell death around a wound. Using aloe will keep the skin moist, which will keep it protected. It is best to use aloe vera gel, rather than aloe vera liquid. The liquid is more intended for internal use. Whereas, the gel is known to be better for skin and will allow the shower gel to have a thicker consistency.
VITAMIN E OIL
Using vitamin E oil in your shower gel will help to heal dry, cracked skin, and reduce skin itching. Vitamin E oil can be very helpful for someone that suffers from eczema, psoriasis, or other skin conditions. If you use vitamin E oil on a scar, it can lessen the appearance over time! Vitamin E oil is incredible for hair and skin. It will leave hair soft and promote a beautiful shine. It too will add moisturizing properties and protect hair from split ends.
MELT AND POUR SOAP BASE
Melt and pour soap bases make a great option for easy soap making. It is as easy as it sounds! You literally melt the base and pour it into the mould. Once it is melted, you have the option of adding in more ingredients that can benefit your hair. And this makes it very easy to customize your shampoo bar the way you want.
Beeswax is another one of those ingredients that you will want to have on hand when you start making your own skincare products. Not only does it have amazing benefits for the skin, but it also helps to thicken and give homemade lotion the correct consistency.
With it’s antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties, this ingredient can be very helpful for sunburned, chapped, or dry skin. It forms a protective wall by sealing moisture in the skin without clogging up the pores.

This oil has a slightly sweet and nutty aroma. This oil can cause skin irritation to anyone with a nut allergy; it can be replaced with jojoba oil or avocado oil if needed. It has a medium consistency and is known for its moisturizing properties. Sweet almond oil is loaded with vitamin E and vitamin A keeping the hair healthy and moisturized.
Castile soap is primarily designed for the body. The blend of oils (coconut, olive, palm, jojoba, and hemp) are designed to be the most nourishing to our skin. Because it is such a beautifully simple soap, it also cleans many other things amazingly well, whether it’s your dog, your sinks, or your floors. You can find details of all these uses on this Castile Soap Dilutions Cheat Sheet. Because Castile soap is a true soap, it reacts with the minerals contained in hard water (add castile soap to your water, If it goes cloudy, it is hard water and will leave a film on your dishes etc. Better to use sal suds in this case)
